My close brush with death happened inside an automobile when I figured in a 6 car pile up in the highway of Los Angeles California 5 years ago. Up to this day I still carry the scar of that accident. I still walk with a slight limp on my leg but I am still glad that I am still alive, same goes with the other people who were involved in that car pile up 5 years ago.
I still remember that day as crystal as the water on a clear lake. I was on my way to work that time driving along the highway of Los Angeles going to downtown LA when a bit of a fog occupies the road, visibility is still alright and I remember talking to someone on the phone when the accident happened. I saw a car in front of me which was not moving I kicked on the break pedal but it's too late as I just watch in horror the impact my car made on the vehicle in front of me.
I was wearing seatbelt that enough lessens the impact but as my car stopped to a halt another car bumped my car from behind and then another car hit from behind. In total 6 cars hit each other in the span of a few minutes before the other cars in the area realized what's going on and eventually stopped in their tracks.
As the dust settles I found out later that the car I hit was already involved in another accident as it already hit another vehicle when I hit it. Thank God nobody was killed but scores of people including me were wounded. Some were hurt so bad that paramedics took some time to get them out of their crumpled vehicles. Others got bloodied face and like me broken bones on their body.
I broke my leg and cracked some ribs with minor bruises in my face and concussions in the head. I spent a total of 7 days at the hospital. Later I came to know that the previous two cars which were involved in the first part of the pile up where driven by teenagers who were drunk. Another case of drunken driving that almost caused a life on the road.
That is why I am now part of a campaign against drunk driving and other unsafe measures while driving. I remember myself talking on the phone when I hit the car in front of me that day, so I now discourage everyone not to even use their phone while driving. Driving a car needs 100% concentration that doing other stuff aside from driving puts risk in your life and others as well.
I hope my experience will teach other people a lesson that driving is a dangerous task once safety precautions are not practiced. Drinking and talking on the phone at the same time might risk your life or someone else's life. Be responsible and nobody will get hurt on the road.

Motorcycle Accident Compensation Claims
Author: Adrian Lawrence
Motorcycle accidents can kill and it is hardly surprising. As a motorbike rider you are 40 times more likely to be killed than car drivers or passengers. You are more likely to be killed on a motorbike than any other means of transport. In 2004 over 500 people were killed in road accidents and over 6000 were seriously injured. These are scary statistics but they are facts and need to be addressed seriously. Another important statistic is that 80% of motorcycle accidents were caused by the negligence of another. Obviously motorcyclists are very vulnerable because of the lack of protection they have and the fact they only have 2 wheels to keep the bike on the road. If a bikes crosses a man hole or some oil on the road it is a lot more difficult to keep control of a bike than it is a car. Also the injuries you are likely to sustain will be a lot worse than a car accident.
So why are motorcycles so appealing to people when they are so dangerous? Well unless you have driven a bike this can be hard to understand. Having driven motor bikes in my youth I can understand the thrills. For me it was a case being a bit of a tom boy and not being old enough to drive a car and I needed transport to take me to work and back. It was only when my second bike was stolen from my front garden that I decided to learn to drive a car and leave my biking days behind. The cold weather in winter was another factor which convinced me to learn to drive a car. But I will never forget the feeling of being astride a motorbike with just your clothing and helmet as protection. There is nothing better to get the adrenalin going than riding a bike. To this day even though I have had a motorcycle accident I still would like to get another bike if only for the summer.
To have an accident on a motorbike is quite a scary experience. Back in the late 90’s I was involved on the back of my boyfriends motorbike when a car came out at a junction and drove straight into us, obviously not seeing us at all. We were both thrown from the bike several feet. Luckily for us we were not traveling very fast and the injuries were not too serious. It could have been a lot worse as I was stupidly wearing a short skirt. Normally I would have been wearing jeans and leathers but that night it was a warm summer evening and my boyfriend was giving me a lift just one way so I thought I would chance wearing a skirt! Big mistake! My arms and legs were badly scratched from the tarmac but I was lucky not to receive more severe injuries.
Our injuries may have been minor but the accident was not our fault and there was damage to the bike, our selves and the leather coats we were wearing. Also once you have had an impact on your crash helmet you are supposed to replace it. With all this in mind we went to see a solicitor and started proceedings. The driver of the car admitted to not seeing us at all so it was a simple case and we won a substantial amount of compensation. It took about 3 months but it was worth it as we replaced our crash helmets, fixed up the scratches to the bike and I bought some much need leather trousers.

An Accident Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Author: Arthur Gueli
Taking accident pictures should be automatic these days. No matter what other evidence you collect, not much can say more than a photo of the accident scene. It's one of the easiest ways to convince an insurance adjuster of what actually happened. Also, in case of a serious accident, a few dramatic photos can greatly improve your chances of collecting punitive damages.
Photos are helpful in almost all forms of accidents. If you slipped or tripped on something, you can preserve the dangerous setting in a photograph. It's one thing to say there was a spill on the floor, but to show how drastic it was in an accident picture is much more powerful. If the spill was more subtle a picture can still help because it'll show how hard it was for you to see it and avoid it - helping clear you of negligence.
A more common situation where pictures come in handy is in a car accident. Car accident photos can be an essential part of your case. The pictures will show how the accident actually happened and how the damages were caused. Your accident pictures could clear you of fault if the other person decides to file a claim against you.
Accident photos can also reveal details you didn't notice when you were at the scene. That'll help you later to recreate things in words. It's easy to argue against a written statement, but it's hard to argue against a photograph. At the very least, photos will impress the insurance adjuster by showing that you're organized and prepared.
Accident pictures aren't always easy to come by. Accident scenes are usually cleaned up pretty quickly. If you don't have a camera with you, you might be out of luck. One thing to remember is that nowadays almost all cell phones come with a built-in camera. So, if a camera phone is all you have, use it.
When processing your claim without the aid of a photo, drawing a picture of the accident can be an advantage. In fact, you might come across an accident form (usually given out by your insurance company) that actually asks you to draw an accident picture. This is a great way to express something that's often difficult to put into words.
